ABOUT US
Based in Bracknell town centre, Headspace is a community arts project where people from the community can work together in a mutually convenient and safe environment to express themselves via various forms of arts activities. The space can be used by local artists with and without disabilities to exhibit their work in return for offering arts and craft type sessions to others who use the space or just to give them an outlet for sharing and retailing their work.

The main aim of the Headspace project is to create a truly integrated arts experience where disadvantaged and disabled people can gain self esteem and enjoy the opportunity to feel part of their local community and attain a real presence in the town centre. It will also help people to become part of a unique project putting them at the forefront of inclusive arts in the area.

The Headspace project is based in Bracknell town centre in a two storey shop unit that needed redecorating and a number of adaptations carried out to make it fully accessible to people with disabilities. As part of this redecoration it was important that everyone involved in the initial stages of setting up the new arts space felt a sense of ownership and therefore had some input into the look of the space. The Waste & Recycling dept of Bracknell Forest Borough Council agreed to help and provided paint for this redecoration and furniture. Funding was applied for via The creative partnerships funding for a large mural to be created inside the space.

Other in house projects for headspace will be to include a scrap store resource where various schools and colleges and playgroups etc can collect valuable art supplies such as cardboard tubing, paint and card to use in art lessons and projects. This will run via the internet and will be open twice a week including recycled art and craft making sessions.

The Headspace project also provides work experience opportunities for disabled people and students alike. The opportunity for people to gain confidence by re establishing themselves back into the work place after a period of absence due to mental health problems is also available with the introduction of this space in town.

The project is working in partnership with other council departments and organisations from the local community such as the waste and recycling dept , Dimensions , U3A, Rethink , South Hill Park Arts Trust , Rowan Bentall Trust and the Berkshire Health Care Trust. This will also help to create a real community spirit within Headspace and all in all the Headspace project will have an arts activity for anyone and will enhance the lives of all who get involved.
